What is the relationship between breath and mind? How do we cultivate our ability to breathe and live in a way that gives life?
When we breathe consciously, the universe's eternal gift of life (prana) becomes accessible and meaningful for us. We absorb how to sensitively attend to energies of body and mind. The life of our mind (citta) responsively grows in wisdom. Intimate communication with our internal processes and universal energy grows when we practice pranayama, the fourth limb of yoga.
This deeply nourishing four-week class introduces the practitioner to B.K.S. Iyengar's preparatory course of pranayama. We will develop our skill in:
Savasana as a form of concentration and meditation
Reclining postures to respond to a wide range of needs
Concise home practice to start or end the day
The seated postures that work best for us
Hearing advice from ancient sages for spaciousness and serenity in our lives today
Prerequisite: Six months' asana study with a qualified teacher; willingness to be with ourselves.
